# AA vs A2s: preflop equity

AA is a big favorite over A2s before the flop: 87.89% to 12.11% equity, counted exactly over every board, with the split by flop type and suit.

## AA against A2s: the numbers

**Exact preflop results for AA against A2s, in percent**

| Hand | Wins | Ties | Loses | Equity |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| AA | 87.239 | 1.308 | 11.453 | 87.893 |
| A2s | 11.453 | 1.308 | 87.239 | 12.107 |

The first hand is a pocket pair; the second is a suited hand. The non-pair hand shares a rank with the pair, so two of its outs for pairing are blocked by the pair itself.

This is one of the lopsided matchups: A2s wins only 11.45% of the boards outright. 1.31% of boards are ties, so the equity of each hand is its win rate plus half of that.

By strength against a random hand, AA holds place 1 of 169 and A2s holds place 46.

**Boards behind the percentages: 20,547,648 counted in all**

| Hand | Boards won, about | Boards tied, about | Boards lost, about |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| AA | 17,926,000 | 269,000 | 2,353,000 |
| A2s | 2,353,000 | 269,000 | 17,926,000 |

The total is exact: 12 specific deals times 1,712,304 boards. The three counts are approximate, worked out from the percentages to five decimals and rounded to the nearest thousand.

**AA against A2s read as odds**

| Hand | Equity as odds (to 1) | Wins one deal in | Loses one deal in | Pot odds needed to call (to 1) |

| A2s | 0.138 | 8.731 | 1.146 | 7.260 |

The last column is the smallest pot odds, written as a pot-to-call ratio, at which a call breaks even with this equity.
