# AA vs ATo: preflop equity

AA is a big favorite over ATo before the flop: 91.87% to 8.14% equity, counted exactly over every board, with the split by flop type and suit.

The exact count puts AA at 91.87% and ATo at 8.13% when the two hands see all five board cards.

## AA against ATo: the numbers

**Exact preflop results for AA against ATo, in percent**

| Hand | Wins | Ties | Loses | Equity |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| AA | 91.228 | 1.274 | 7.498 | 91.865 |
| ATo | 7.498 | 1.274 | 91.228 | 8.135 |

AA and ATo are a pocket pair and an offsuit hand, in that order. The pair already holds one of the other hand's ranks, and that overlap cuts down the cards the other hand can pair with.

This is one of the lopsided matchups: ATo wins only 7.50% of the boards outright. Ties are 1.27% of the outcomes here; each tied board gives both hands half the pot.

The hand ranking puts AA at 1 and ATo at 19 out of 169 starting hands.

**Boards behind the percentages: 61,642,944 counted in all**

| Hand | Boards won, about | Boards tied, about | Boards lost, about |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| AA | 56,236,000 | 785,000 | 4,622,000 |
| ATo | 4,622,000 | 785,000 | 56,236,000 |

The board total is exact, 36 deals at 1,712,304 boards each. Won, tied and lost counts are rounded to the nearest thousand from the five-decimal percentages.

**AA against ATo read as odds**

| Hand | Equity as odds (to 1) | Wins one deal in | Loses one deal in | Pot odds needed to call (to 1) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |

| ATo | 0.089 | 13.337 | 1.096 | 11.293 |

The last column is the break-even price: the pot odds a call needs to offer, as a ratio of pot to call.

## How this was computed

Each figure is a complete count over boards. Take the 36 specific deals, group them by suit pattern, deal all 1,712,304 boards against each, and compare the two seven-card hands. Equity counts a tie as half a win; the flop rows use every one of a board's ten flops.
