# AKo vs KJs: preflop equity

AKo is a big favorite over KJs before the flop: 70.13% to 29.87% equity, counted exactly over every board, with the split by flop type and suit.

Before any board card is dealt, AKo holds 70.13% equity against KJs, which leaves KJs with 29.87%.

## AKo against KJs: the numbers

**Exact preflop results for AKo against KJs, in percent**

| Hand | Wins | Ties | Loses | Equity |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| AKo | 69.558 | 1.142 | 29.300 | 70.129 |
| KJs | 29.300 | 1.142 | 69.558 | 29.871 |

One side is an offsuit hand, the other is a suited hand. Because the hands share one rank, the one with the higher kicker is ahead when that rank pairs and the other hand is mostly drawing.

A lead of 40.26 points is large but not decisive: KJs still takes about 293 of every 1,000 deals. Of every 100 boards, about 1.14 are split pots, and the equity figures already include them.

In the ranking of all 169 starting hands, AKo is number 12 and KJs is number 20.

**Boards behind the percentages: 61,642,944 counted in all**

| Hand | Boards won, about | Boards tied, about | Boards lost, about |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| AKo | 42,878,000 | 704,000 | 18,061,000 |
| KJs | 18,061,000 | 704,000 | 42,878,000 |

The total is exact: 36 specific deals times 1,712,304 boards. The three counts are approximate, worked out from the percentages to five decimals and rounded to the nearest thousand.

**AKo against KJs read as odds**

| Hand | Equity as odds (to 1) | Wins one deal in | Loses one deal in | Pot odds needed to call (to 1) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| AKo | 2.348 | 1.438 | 3.413 | 0.426 |
| KJs | 0.426 | 3.413 | 1.438 | 2.348 |

The last column is the break-even price: the pot odds a call needs to offer, as a ratio of pot to call.

## Who is ahead on which flops

If you know the kind of flop that came, the numbers shift: AKo holds 82.97% on low rainbow flops (nine high or lower) and 65.32% on monotone flops. AKo stays ahead on all five textures, but the swing between them is large, so how the flop looks matters a great deal.

**AKo against KJs by flop texture, in percent**

| Flop | Share of flops | AKo wins | Ties | KJs wins | AKo equity |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Rainbow, ten or higher | 23.177 | 67.628 | 0.776 | 31.596 | 68.016 |
| Rainbow, nine or lower | 7.771 | 82.364 | 1.205 | 16.431 | 82.967 |
| Two-tone | 46.527 | 67.812 | 0.825 | 31.363 | 68.225 |
| Monotone | 5.192 | 64.030 | 2.576 | 33.394 | 65.318 |
| Paired | 17.333 | 72.736 | 2.026 | 25.238 | 73.749 |

Read the flop types this way: rainbow has three suits, two-tone has two cards of one suit, monotone has three, and paired repeats a rank.
