# AKs vs A6s: preflop equity

AKs is a big favorite over A6s before the flop: 70.93% to 29.07% equity, counted exactly over every board, with the split by flop type and suit.

The exact count puts AKs at 70.93% and A6s at 29.07% when the two hands see all five board cards.

## AKs against A6s: the numbers

**Exact preflop results for AKs against A6s, in percent**

| Hand | Wins | Ties | Loses | Equity |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| AKs | 68.948 | 3.961 | 27.091 | 70.929 |
| A6s | 27.091 | 3.961 | 68.948 | 29.071 |

AKs and A6s are both suited hands. Because the hands share one rank, the one with the higher kicker is ahead when that rank pairs and the other hand is mostly drawing.

That is a clear edge, 70.93% to 29.07%, but A6s still wins often enough that one hand proves nothing. The tie share is 3.96%: on those boards the pot is chopped and neither hand wins outright.

AKs ranks number 8 of 169 starting hands, and A6s ranks number 31, by equity against a random hand.

**Boards behind the percentages: 20,547,648 counted in all**

| Hand | Boards won, about | Boards tied, about | Boards lost, about |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| AKs | 14,167,000 | 814,000 | 5,567,000 |
| A6s | 5,567,000 | 814,000 | 14,167,000 |

The total is exact: 12 specific deals times 1,712,304 boards. The three counts are approximate, worked out from the percentages to five decimals and rounded to the nearest thousand.

**AKs against A6s read as odds**

| Hand | Equity as odds (to 1) | Wins one deal in | Loses one deal in | Pot odds needed to call (to 1) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| AKs | 2.440 | 1.450 | 3.691 | 0.410 |
| A6s | 0.410 | 3.691 | 1.450 | 2.440 |

In the last column, a pot-to-call ratio at or above the figure makes a call break even or better at this equity.

## Who is ahead on which flops

AKs prefers rainbow flops topped by a ten or better, where it holds 77.74%, and likes low rainbow flops (nine high or lower) least, where it holds 56.91%. AKs stays ahead on all five textures, but the swing between them is large, so how the flop looks matters a great deal.

**AKs against A6s by flop texture, in percent**

| Flop | Share of flops | AKs wins | Ties | A6s wins | AKs equity |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Rainbow, ten or higher | 23.867 | 76.635 | 2.203 | 21.162 | 77.736 |
| Rainbow, nine or lower | 7.042 | 55.503 | 2.812 | 41.685 | 56.909 |
| Two-tone | 46.543 | 69.056 | 2.120 | 28.824 | 70.116 |
| Monotone | 5.215 | 62.378 | 4.265 | 33.357 | 64.511 |
| Paired | 17.333 | 65.513 | 11.701 | 22.786 | 71.363 |

Rainbow flops have three suits, two-tone flops repeat one suit, monotone flops are all one suit, and paired flops repeat a rank.

## How this was computed

Each figure is a complete count over boards. Take the 12 specific deals, group them by suit pattern, deal all 1,712,304 boards against each, and compare the two seven-card hands. Equity counts a tie as half a win; the flop rows use every one of a board's ten flops.
