# KJs vs A8s: preflop equity

Who is ahead, KJs or A8s? A8s leads 56.90% to 43.10% before the flop, counted exactly over every board, with the split by flop type and suit.

## KJs against A8s: the numbers

**Exact preflop results for KJs against A8s, in percent**

| Hand | Wins | Ties | Loses | Equity |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| KJs | 42.853 | 0.492 | 56.655 | 43.099 |
| A8s | 56.655 | 0.492 | 42.853 | 56.901 |

This is a contest between two suited hands, KJs and A8s. The two hands share no rank, which makes this a pure matchup of card strength, straight chances and flush chances.

The lead is steady rather than large, and the flop still has plenty of say in who wins. Ties are 0.49% of the outcomes here; each tied board gives both hands half the pot.

For context, KJs sits at number 20 of 169 starting hands and A8s at number 21 when each is run against a random hand.

**Boards behind the percentages: 27,396,864 counted in all**

| Hand | Boards won, about | Boards tied, about | Boards lost, about |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| KJs | 11,740,000 | 135,000 | 15,522,000 |
| A8s | 15,522,000 | 135,000 | 11,740,000 |

The total is exact: 16 specific deals times 1,712,304 boards. The three counts are approximate, worked out from the percentages to five decimals and rounded to the nearest thousand.

**KJs against A8s read as odds**

| Hand | Equity as odds (to 1) | Wins one deal in | Loses one deal in | Pot odds needed to call (to 1) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |

| A8s | 1.320 | 1.765 | 2.334 | 0.757 |

The last column is the smallest pot odds, written as a pot-to-call ratio, at which a call breaks even with this equity.

## How this was computed

This is an exact count with no sampling. For the 16 ways to deal one KJs and one A8s without reusing a card, grouped by suit pattern, every one of the 1,712,304 possible boards is dealt and both seven-card hands are compared. A tie counts as half a win in the equity column, and each board is counted once under each of its ten three-card flops.
