# KK vs AKs: preflop equity

KK is a big favorite over AKs before the flop: 65.89% to 34.11% equity, counted exactly over every board, with the split by flop type and suit.

Before any board card is dealt, KK holds 65.89% equity against AKs, which leaves AKs with 34.11%.

## KK against AKs: the numbers

**Exact preflop results for KK against AKs, in percent**

| Hand | Wins | Ties | Loses | Equity |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| KK | 65.481 | 0.825 | 33.694 | 65.894 |
| AKs | 33.694 | 0.825 | 65.481 | 34.106 |

One side is a pocket pair, the other is a suited hand. The non-pair hand shares a rank with the pair, so two of its outs for pairing are blocked by the pair itself.

That is a clear edge, 65.89% to 34.11%, but AKs still wins often enough that one hand proves nothing. The tie share is 0.83%: on those boards the pot is chopped and neither hand wins outright.

In the ranking of all 169 starting hands, KK is number 2 and AKs is number 8.

**Boards behind the percentages: 20,547,648 counted in all**

| Hand | Boards won, about | Boards tied, about | Boards lost, about |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| KK | 13,455,000 | 170,000 | 6,923,000 |
| AKs | 6,923,000 | 170,000 | 13,455,000 |

Exact total: 12 deals times 1,712,304 boards. The other three counts come from the five-decimal percentages and are rounded to the nearest thousand, so read them as approximate.

**KK against AKs read as odds**

| Hand | Equity as odds (to 1) | Wins one deal in | Loses one deal in | Pot odds needed to call (to 1) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| KK | 1.932 | 1.527 | 2.968 | 0.518 |
| AKs | 0.518 | 2.968 | 1.527 | 1.932 |

The last column is the break-even price: the pot odds a call needs to offer, as a ratio of pot to call.

## Who is ahead on which flops

If you know the kind of flop that came, the numbers shift: KK holds 81.81% on low rainbow flops (nine high or lower) and 61.33% on monotone flops. KK stays ahead on all five textures, but the swing between them is large, so how the flop looks matters a great deal.

**KK against AKs by flop texture, in percent**

| Flop | Share of flops | KK wins | Ties | AKs wins | KK equity |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Rainbow, ten or higher | 23.011 | 61.292 | 0.838 | 37.870 | 61.711 |
| Rainbow, nine or lower | 7.771 | 81.150 | 1.324 | 17.526 | 81.812 |
| Two-tone | 46.236 | 62.953 | 0.873 | 36.174 | 63.390 |
| Monotone | 5.151 | 60.306 | 2.054 | 37.640 | 61.333 |
| Paired | 17.831 | 72.110 | 0.109 | 27.781 | 72.164 |

A rainbow flop shows three suits, a two-tone flop repeats one suit, a monotone flop is a single suit, and a paired flop repeats a rank.

| AKs, paired | 27.836 | 67.045 | -39.209 | 0.41518 |

## Does a shared suit matter?

Every legal deal of KK against AKs leaves the hands with no suit in common, so the suit split does not apply here.

**KK against AKs by suit overlap, in percent**

| Deals | Specific deals | Share of deals | KK wins | Ties | AKs wins | KK equity |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Share a suit | 0 | 0.00 | not possible | not possible | not possible | not possible |
| No shared suit | 12 | 100.00 | 65.481 | 0.825 | 33.694 | 65.894 |

## How often this matchup comes up

You will meet this exact matchup 0.0015% of the time in a random heads-up deal: 24 of 1,624,350, counting either seat order.

## A worked example

Take a $200 pot built from $100 each. KK's equity of 65.89% is worth $131.78, a $31.78 edge, and AKs' 34.11% is worth $68.22, which is $31.78 under its stake.

Over a long run, 1,000 deals split into about 655 for KK, 337 for AKs and 8 tied.

## The same matchup from the other side

AKs against KK adds nothing new: it is 34.11% for AKs and 65.89% for KK, the same figures reversed.

## How this was computed

This is an exact count with no sampling. For the 12 ways to deal one KK and one AKs without reusing a card, grouped by suit pattern, every one of the 1,712,304 possible boards is dealt and both seven-card hands are compared. A tie counts as half a win in the equity column, and each board is counted once under each of its ten three-card flops.
