# KQo vs QTs: preflop equity

KQo is a big favorite over QTs before the flop: 69.56% to 30.44% equity, counted exactly over every board, with the split by flop type and suit.

The exact count puts KQo at 69.56% and QTs at 30.44% when the two hands see all five board cards.

## KQo against QTs: the numbers

**Exact preflop results for KQo against QTs, in percent**

| Hand | Wins | Ties | Loses | Equity |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| KQo | 68.342 | 2.440 | 29.218 | 69.562 |
| QTs | 29.218 | 2.440 | 68.342 | 30.438 |

Here an offsuit hand (KQo) meets a suited hand (QTs). The two hands share a rank, and the one with the better other card dominates: it wins most kicker battles when that shared rank hits.

That is a clear edge, 69.56% to 30.44%, but QTs still wins often enough that one hand proves nothing. 2.44% of boards are ties, so the equity of each hand is its win rate plus half of that.

Place 23 of 169 belongs to KQo and place 34 belongs to QTs in the ranking against a random hand.

**Boards behind the percentages: 61,642,944 counted in all**

| Hand | Boards won, about | Boards tied, about | Boards lost, about |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| KQo | 42,128,000 | 1,504,000 | 18,011,000 |
| QTs | 18,011,000 | 1,504,000 | 42,128,000 |

The total is exact: 36 specific deals times 1,712,304 boards. The three counts are approximate, worked out from the percentages to five decimals and rounded to the nearest thousand.

**KQo against QTs read as odds**

| Hand | Equity as odds (to 1) | Wins one deal in | Loses one deal in | Pot odds needed to call (to 1) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| KQo | 2.285 | 1.463 | 3.423 | 0.438 |
| QTs | 0.438 | 3.423 | 1.463 | 2.285 |

The last column is the smallest pot odds, written as a pot-to-call ratio, at which a call breaks even with this equity.

## Who is ahead on which flops

The flop changes the picture. KQo does best on low rainbow flops (nine high or lower), at 80.31%, and worst on monotone flops, at 65.01%. KQo stays ahead on all five textures, but the swing between them is large, so how the flop looks matters a great deal.

**KQo against QTs by flop texture, in percent**

| Flop | Share of flops | KQo wins | Ties | QTs wins | KQo equity |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Rainbow, ten or higher | 23.177 | 67.056 | 2.303 | 30.641 | 68.208 |
| Rainbow, nine or lower | 7.771 | 79.797 | 1.022 | 19.181 | 80.308 |
| Two-tone | 46.527 | 66.841 | 1.883 | 31.276 | 67.782 |
| Monotone | 5.192 | 63.283 | 3.463 | 33.254 | 65.014 |
| Paired | 17.333 | 70.472 | 4.445 | 25.083 | 72.694 |

Read the flop types this way: rainbow has three suits, two-tone has two cards of one suit, monotone has three, and paired repeats a rank.

## How this was computed

Method: exact enumeration. The 36 specific deals are grouped by suit pattern, each is run against all 1,712,304 boards, and both seven-card hands are scored. Equity adds half of every tie, and flop textures are tallied over the ten flops inside each board.
