## KQs against A8s: the numbers

**Exact preflop results for KQs against A8s, in percent**

| Hand | Wins | Ties | Loses | Equity |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |

| A8s | 56.655 | 0.500 | 42.845 | 56.905 |

The matchup is suited hands on both sides, KQs against A8s. With no overlap in ranks, every card that pairs one hand is a card that does not pair the other.

That is a modest edge, the kind that shows up over many hands and is easy to miss in one. Ties are 0.50% of the outcomes here; each tied board gives both hands half the pot.

KQs ranks number 16 of 169 starting hands, and A8s ranks number 21, by equity against a random hand.

**Boards behind the percentages: 27,396,864 counted in all**

| Hand | Boards won, about | Boards tied, about | Boards lost, about |

| A8s | 15,522,000 | 137,000 | 11,738,000 |

16 specific deals times 1,712,304 boards gives the exact total. The won, tied and lost counts are approximations from the five-decimal percentages, rounded to the nearest thousand.

**KQs against A8s read as odds**

| A8s | 1.320 | 1.765 | 2.334 | 0.757 |

| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |

## How this was computed

This is an exact count with no sampling. For the 16 ways to deal one KQs and one A8s without reusing a card, grouped by suit pattern, every one of the 1,712,304 possible boards is dealt and both seven-card hands are compared. A tie counts as half a win in the equity column, and each board is counted once under each of its ten three-card flops.
