# QJs vs A5s: preflop equity

Who is ahead, QJs or A5s? A5s leads 56.01% to 43.99% before the flop, counted exactly over every board, with the split by flop type and suit.

Averaged over every possible board, A5s is ahead of QJs by 12.02 points of equity, 56.01% to 43.99%.

## QJs against A5s: the numbers

**Exact preflop results for QJs against A5s, in percent**

| Hand | Wins | Ties | Loses | Equity |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| QJs | 43.730 | 0.513 | 55.757 | 43.987 |
| A5s | 55.757 | 0.513 | 43.730 | 56.013 |

This is a contest between two suited hands, QJs and A5s. Neither hand shares a rank with the other, so this is a contest of high cards, connection and suits.

A5s is ahead, but QJs is far from dead: it takes 437 of every 1,000 deals outright. Split pots make up 0.51% of the boards, and both equity figures count them as half a win each.

By strength against a random hand, QJs holds place 28 of 169 and A5s holds place 30.

**Boards behind the percentages: 27,396,864 counted in all**

| Hand | Boards won, about | Boards tied, about | Boards lost, about |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| QJs | 11,981,000 | 141,000 | 15,276,000 |
| A5s | 15,276,000 | 141,000 | 11,981,000 |

The board total is exact, 16 deals at 1,712,304 boards each. Won, tied and lost counts are rounded to the nearest thousand from the five-decimal percentages.

**QJs against A5s read as odds**

| Hand | Equity as odds (to 1) | Wins one deal in | Loses one deal in | Pot odds needed to call (to 1) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |

| A5s | 1.273 | 1.793 | 2.287 | 0.785 |

The last column is the break-even price: the pot odds a call needs to offer, as a ratio of pot to call.

## Who is ahead on which flops

## How this was computed

This is an exact count with no sampling. For the 16 ways to deal one QJs and one A5s without reusing a card, grouped by suit pattern, every one of the 1,712,304 possible boards is dealt and both seven-card hands are compared. A tie counts as half a win in the equity column, and each board is counted once under each of its ten three-card flops.
