# TT vs T8s: preflop equity

TT is a big favorite over T8s before the flop: 83.62% to 16.38% equity, counted exactly over every board, with the split by flop type and suit.

Averaged over every possible board, TT is ahead of T8s by 67.24 points of equity, 83.62% to 16.38%.

## TT against T8s: the numbers

**Exact preflop results for TT against T8s, in percent**

| Hand | Wins | Ties | Loses | Equity |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| TT | 82.212 | 2.807 | 14.981 | 83.616 |
| T8s | 14.981 | 2.807 | 82.212 | 16.384 |

Here a pocket pair (TT) meets a suited hand (T8s). The non-pair hand shares a rank with the pair, so two of its outs for pairing are blocked by the pair itself.

That is a heavy lead: T8s needs the board to help it on most runouts and still falls behind far more often than not. Ties are part of the picture: 2.81% of boards end in a split pot, and each side counts that as half a win.

Among the 169 starting hands, TT is number 5 and T8s is number 73 by strength against a random hand.

**Boards behind the percentages: 20,547,648 counted in all**

| Hand | Boards won, about | Boards tied, about | Boards lost, about |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| TT | 16,893,000 | 577,000 | 3,078,000 |
| T8s | 3,078,000 | 577,000 | 16,893,000 |

The board total is exact, 12 deals at 1,712,304 boards each. Won, tied and lost counts are rounded to the nearest thousand from the five-decimal percentages.

**TT against T8s read as odds**

| Hand | Equity as odds (to 1) | Wins one deal in | Loses one deal in | Pot odds needed to call (to 1) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| TT | 5.104 | 1.216 | 6.675 | 0.196 |
| T8s | 0.196 | 6.675 | 1.216 | 5.104 |

The final column gives the least the pot must offer for each unit called for a call to break even at this equity.

## Who is ahead on which flops

If you know the kind of flop that came, the numbers shift: TT holds 87.55% on rainbow flops topped by a ten or better and 74.79% on monotone flops. TT stays ahead on all five textures.

**TT against T8s by flop texture, in percent**

| Flop | Share of flops | TT wins | Ties | T8s wins | TT equity |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Rainbow, ten or higher | 23.740 | 86.061 | 2.977 | 10.962 | 87.549 |
| Rainbow, nine or lower | 7.042 | 82.096 | 2.825 | 15.079 | 83.509 |
| Two-tone | 46.236 | 80.714 | 2.693 | 16.593 | 82.060 |
| Monotone | 5.151 | 73.143 | 3.292 | 23.565 | 74.789 |
| Paired | 17.831 | 83.638 | 2.731 | 13.631 | 85.003 |

A rainbow flop shows three suits, a two-tone flop repeats one suit, a monotone flop is a single suit, and a paired flop repeats a rank.

## How this was computed

Each figure is a complete count over boards. Take the 12 specific deals, group them by suit pattern, deal all 1,712,304 boards against each, and compare the two seven-card hands. Equity counts a tie as half a win; the flop rows use every one of a board's ten flops.
