# Flop Odds: Set, Flush, Straight and More

The exact chance to flop a pair, two pair, a set, a straight, a flush, a full house or quads, counted over all 19,600 flops, with the formula for each.

A pocket pair flops a set or better 11.76% of the time, a suited hand flops a flush 0.84%, and an unpaired hand pairs a hole card 32.43%. Every figure is counted exactly over all 19,600 flops.

## What are the odds of flopping each hand?

Two hole cards leave 50 unseen cards, and the flop is any 3 of them: 19,600 equally likely flops. The table counts how many of them make each hand, for the starting hand that matters. Each row opens a page with the formula and the table behind it.

Chance to flop each hand:

| Hand on the flop | Starting hand | Chance | Odds |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| A set or better | Pocket pair | 11.76% | 1 in 8.51 |
| A pair or better with a hole card | Unpaired hand | 32.43% | 1 in 3.08 |
| Two pair with both hole cards | Unpaired hand | 2.11% | 1 in 47.3 |
| A flush | Suited hand | 0.84% | 1 in 119 |
| A flush draw | Suited hand | 10.94% | 1 in 9.14 |
| A straight (the best hands) | Connectors | 1.31% | 1 in 76.6 |
| A full house | Pocket pair | 0.98% | 1 in 102 |
| Four of a kind | Pocket pair | 0.24% | 1 in 408 |

## How do I read these numbers at the table?

A chance of 11.76% for a set means you miss about 7.51 times for every time you hit. That is the number a set-mining call has to pay for. A flush draw hits the flop 10.94% of the time but completes by the river 34.97% of the time once you have it, which is the number the call or fold pages use.

## How were these numbers computed?

After two hole cards are dealt, 50 cards are unseen and the flop is any 3 of them, so there are C(50, 3) = 19,600 equally likely flops. For each starting hand we deal all 19,600, classify the five cards with our hand evaluator and count. Suits are symmetric, so one combination stands for every combination of the same hand. The closed forms on this page use binomial coefficients and give the same counts.

## Questions

**How many flops are possible?**

19,600 after you hold two cards: the flop is any 3 of the 50 unseen cards, C(50, 3).

**What is the chance of flopping a set?**

11.76%, or 1 in 8.51, with a pocket pair.

**Does the suit or the rank of my hand change these numbers?**

Only through what the hand can make. Every pocket pair has the same set chance, every suited hand the same flush chance, and straights depend on how connected the cards are.
